University of Georgia Homecoming Week 2017—"Home is Where the Arch Is"—gets underway Oct. 9 with a variety of activities and events to appeal to all members of the university community. Activities for students are scheduled throughout the week, and the weekend features events for alumni and the Oct. 14 football game against Missouri, including the crowning of the Homecoming king and queen.

Hanna Holley, a third-year public relations student from Dublin, was crowned Miss University of Georgia 2017 at the annual scholarship pageant held Jan. 21 in the UGA Fine Arts Auditorium. A 2014 graduate of West Laurens High School, she is the daughter of Dennis and Dawn Holley.

The Leslie K. Bates Medal of Excellence was presented to Jon Hurst, Mariah Domenech and Marvin J. Nunnally during the Multicultural Services and Programs Senior Leader Reception April 25 at the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries. The three were honored for their commitment to UGA's multicultural community.

Sylvia M. Hutchinson, a professor emerita, has been named director of academic partnerships and initiatives at UGA. She will join the Division of Student Affairs staff to coordinate a new strategic priority to formalize and strengthen partnerships with campus academic units, according to Victor K. Wilson, vice president for student affairs.
