Noted author to deliver Betty Jean Craige Lecture

Viet Thanh Nguyen, a winner of the Pulitzer Prize in fiction for his 2015 novel The Sympathizer, will visit UGA Feb. 13 to give the comparative literature department's annual Betty Jean Craige Lecture. He will also take part in a Feb. 14 public conversation hosted by the Dean Rusk International Law Center.

Former UGA history professor, author to speak at Cine March 24

Paul Sutter, an associate professor of history and faculty affiliate in environmental studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder, will give a talk at Cine at 234 W. Hancock Ave. in downtown Athens March 24 at 5 p.m. His visit is sponsored by the University of Georgia Press in partnership with the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts as part of the Willson Center's Global Georgia
Initiative.

Pulitzer finalist to give lecture Feb. 25

Harvard University historian Sven Beckert will visit UGA Feb. 25 for the Global Georgia Initiative of the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts. He will give his talk, "Empire of Cotton: The Global Origins of Modern Capitalism," at 4 p.m. in the Chapel.

University initiatives in digital humanities to be launched

The Jane and Harry Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, in partnership with the UGA Libraries and the University of Georgia Press, will launch its new Digital Humanities Lab on the third floor of the main library as part of "DIGI@UGA" Day April 17 at 2 p.m.

Amazon conservationist to give Global Georgia lecture Feb. 19

Randy Borman, the son of Anglo-American missionaries who was born and raised among an Amazonian tribe known as the Cofán people, will speak in the Chapel Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. His lecture, "An Amazon Contribution to Global Survival," is open free to the public.
