The Peabody Media Center and the University of Georgia have named six winners of this year's Peabody-Facebook Futures of Media Awards for outstanding digital storytelling released in 2016. The programs use 3-D modeling, virtual reality, interactive websites and video games to address stories covering a range of issues from torture in prison and childhood cancer to transgender dating and identity.

The Peabody Awards Board of Jurors has selected Norman Lear to receive an Individual Award and the Independent Television Service an Institutional Award for their contributions to storytelling in television.

The Peabody Awards Board of Jurors has selected 60 finalists that represent the most compelling and empowering stories released in electronic media during 2016. As part of a new distinction introduced last year, jurors chose 60 finalists out of 1,200 entries from television, radio and the web. The Peabody Awards are based at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.

The Peabody Media Center, FUSION and The Root have launched a content partnership that will bring Peabody's rich media archive together with FUSION's diverse voices to explore issues of contemporary importance.

Peabody is launching The Media Center at Peabody, a scholarly research center and digital media production arm of the Peabody Awards. The announcement was made by Jeffrey Jones, executive director of the awards program and new center. The Media Center at Peabody is based at UGA's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Since its founding 75 years ago, the Peabodys have been issued under the auspices of UGA's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. What originated as a desire to acknowledge the best in radio has become an award that reflects compelling storytelling across all forms of electronic media.

The UGA Institute of Higher Education will hold a 50th anniversary conference March 30 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. The conference will bring together alumni, faculty, students, staff and friends to celebrate the past successes of the institute and chart a path for the future.
