The university community is celebrating Homecoming Week with various activities culminating with the Nov. 5 football game against New Mexico State University. The theme “History is made on Saturdays” headlines the celebration, which includes events for students, alumni and fans.
The Homecoming Committee of the University Union Student Programming Board is sponsoring numerous campus activities in conjunction with Homecoming. The events are free to UGA students with a valid ID. The general public is invited to participate, though some events may have an associated fee. Some of the scheduled events include:
• The American Red Cross Homecoming blood drive in Memorial Hall Nov. 1 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
• Local Laughs Live featuring student comedians Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. in the Tate Theater.
• The Homecoming Concert on Legion Field featuring Chiddy Bang, Cool Kids and Hoodie Allen is planned for Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. There is a $10 fee for non-students.
• The Homecoming movie in the Tate Theater on Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. The movie is Little Giants (1994). There is a $5 fee for non-students.
• The Homecoming parade through downtown Athens, with Charlie Trippi as the grand marshal, on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. A two-time All-American, Trippi played for UGA’s football team in the mid-1940s.
• A carnival on Legion Field on Nov. 4 from 7-11 p.m. There is a $5 fee for non-students.
• The kickoff of the football game is Nov. 5 at 12:30 p.m.
Along with events taking place on campus during Homecoming Week, several schools and colleges will hold various alumni activities.
The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences will host its sixth annual invitation-only tailgate luncheon in partnership with the UGA at Oxford Program Nov. 5 on the patio of Park Hall.
The Terry College of Business will host a homecoming tailgate Nov. 5 on the lawn of Brooks Hall. The tailgate will include a buffet and live music. Tickets are $25 for adults, $12 for children ages 6-12 and children younger than 6 are free. Prepaid reservations are required in advance.
The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources will host a golf tournament on Nov. 4 on the UGA Golf Course at 8:30 a.m.; sporting clays will take place at the Brush Creek Sporting Club in Colbert at 10 a.m.; tours of the Warnell facilities and grounds will begin at 2 p.m.; and the Whitehall Mansion will host an open house from 4-5 p.m. On Nov. 5, the game day brunch and barbecue will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at Flinchum’s Phoenix.
The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication will hold its annual Alumni Authors Showcase Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. in the Miller Learning Center’s reading room. On Nov. 5, the annual Homecoming Tailgate will be held on the Grady lawn. Alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends are invited to enjoy barbecue and live music. The School of Law will host reunions for graduating classes celebrating significant anniversaries. On Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., these classes are invited back to the law school for a reception and dinner. The next day, the 21st annual Law School Homecoming BBQ will begin at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration for these events is required. For more information or to register, see www.law.uga.edu/events/10519.
The College of Pharmacy will host a tailgate lunch and reunions for various classes on Nov. 5. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with tours of the Pharmacy South and Wilson Pharmacy buildings from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., with door prize drawings at noon. All events will be held on the Brooks Mall in front of the Wilson Pharmacy Building.
The Agriculture Honorary Society will host its annual Alumni Breakfast Nov. 5 at 7:30 a.m. at the Georgia Center.
The poultry science department will hold a tailgate for alumni Nov. 5 on the patio between the poultry science and food science buildings. Food and soft drinks will be provided, and families are encouraged to attend.
