Campus Closeup: Robbie Eddins
Senior Administrative Secretary
Legal Career Services
School of Law
JOB DESCRIPTION: "My primary responsibility is coordinating the details of hundreds of job interviews between students and potential employers each year both on- and off-campus."
YEARS IN CURRENT POSITION: Ten.
MOST REWARDING PART OF MY JOB: "I really enjoy working with the students and the employers. I like coordinating everything and working with the people.
"It's challenging because of the volume of work that we have. We don't really have ‘typical' days here, but that's part of the fun, part of the challenge.
"It can be stressful, and I haven't found a way to conquer stress yet. I think it really helps if you enjoy what you do, and I enjoy what I do.
"My co-workers are wonderful and it helps that we can laugh together about things.
"The director of Legal Career Services [Beth Kirch] nominated me for the [School of Law Employee Distinguished Service] award, which I received at our year-end luncheon. I was very excited and very honored.
"I try to do a good job, and I was thrilled that it was acknowledged.
"I certainly didn't expect to win. I received a monetary award as well as a framed certificate."
PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCES: "Prior to working for Legal Career Services, I ran a daycare center out of my home for a few years, which was great.
"Before that, I worked in human resources in a position that involved handling employee records, and before that I worked in the psychology department as a secretary.
"I also worked for the United Way, handling correspondence and bookkeeping."
IF I WASN'T DOING THIS JOB, I WOULD MOST LIKE TO: "Own a preschool.
"I love children, especially toddlers. It's great to get them started right at that age and help mold them into the people they will be as young adults."
OFF-THE-JOB INTERESTS: "I enjoy watching movies, spending time with friends and with my 16-year-old daughter, Amie, who is going to enter her freshman year at UGA this summer. She actually skipped a grade in school, which allowed her to start college early."
"My favorite types of movies are suspense and comedies. I listen to country music, mostly, but I'll also listen to other music if my daughter is listening to it. I enjoy reading Christian magazines and inspirational writing, too."
THE PEOPLE I MOST ADMIRE: "There are so many people I look up to and admire, so it's difficult to name just one.
"What I try to do-how I try to live my life-is to treat other people the way I want to be treated. We are service-oriented, and you have to think about the people.
"It can be difficult because sometimes we get overwhelmed with so much work, but I try my best to treat people right."
THE ISSUE THAT CONCERNS ME MOST ABOUT TODAY'S WORLD: "I don't really have one.
"I think every generation thinks that things are the worst that they've ever been, but the truth is they always have been bad in some ways and always will be.
"But there is a lot of good, too, so I try not to dwell on the bad things."
