Willson Center roundtable to feature discussion, screening of ‘La Jetee’

The Willson Center for Humanities and Arts will hold the Cinema Roundtable “Science/­Fiction/Time Games: Watching Chris Marker’s  La Jetee” on Jan. 25 at 3:30 p.m. in Room 150 of the Miller Learning Center.

Richard Neupert, the Wheatley Professor of the Arts and a Meigs Professor of Theatre and Film Studies in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, will moderate the discussion.

The panel will include UGA faculty members Andrew Zawacki, associate professor of English and director of the creative writing program, and Jed Rasula, Helen S. Lanier Distinguished Professor of English, as well as Virginia Bonner, associate professor of film and media studies at Clayton State University and a Marker specialist.

The roundtable will include a screening of La Jetee, a 27-minute narrative featurette from 1962. Marker was a French filmmaker who also is known for experimental essay films such as A Grin Without a Cat (1977) and Sans Soleil (1983).
