US panel to begin rewriting campus safety reporting rules in January

A panel tasked with creating new reporting rules for campus safety—including requirements to report dating violence, domestic violence and stalking—is scheduled to meet in January, according to a notice from the U.S. Education Department.

The committee will prepare new regulations based on this year’s reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, including changes to the Clery Act.

The changes, passed by Congress earlier this year, require colleges to disclose incidents of reported dating violence and stalking that occur on or near campus. New rules also strengthen requirements that colleges inform victims of their legal rights.
