University Council OKs new statue of Abraham Baldwin on North Campus

A bronze statue of Abraham Baldwin, UGA’s founder and first president, will soon stand at the foot of the Presidents Garden Club, the University Council voted at its Nov. 5 meeting.

The UGA Alumni Association pledged the first $60,000 toward a fundraising drive for the statue, which should be completed in about 15 months.

University Council also voted to revise the university’s policy concerning centers and institutes. The new rules require centers and institutes to provide goals and metrics to measure those goals, define or clarify reporting lines, detail the existence of current and future acquisitions and clarify the review process among other things.
