UGA to take part in severe weather drill

UGA will participate in the Georgia Statewide Severe Weather Drill Feb. 8 at approximately 9 a.m. In conjunction with the drill, the Office of Emergency Preparedness will conduct a test of the UGAAlert system.

The National Weather Service will initiate the drill, and the Athens-Clarke County community and UGA will participate. Campus outdoor tornado sirens will be activated per normal drill procedures; however, NOAA weather radios only will display a test message and may not produce an audible alert.

No all-clear message will be sent after the test, so those participating in the drill can move to their shelter location when the test message is sent and then end the drill after accounting for personnel in individual buildings.

In case of inclement weather, the drill will be rescheduled to a day when conditions are more favorable.
