Tennessee chancellors, presidents may not need graduate degrees

Some Tennessee politicians could soon hold chancellor and presidential positions at state universities without holding advanced degrees, thanks to two pieces of legislation pending in the state’s General Assembly, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The bills also would reduce the requirements for Tennessee’s secretary of state, comptroller, treasurer, members of the governor’s cabinet, and cabinet-level staff members, who would need only a baccalaureate degree after 10 years of service.
