Technology Commercialization Office honors 55 inventors at luncheon

The Technology Commercialization Office recognized 55 university employees named as inventors on U.S. patents at a recent luncheon.

A total of 36 patents naming UGA inventors were awarded to the UGA Research Foundation Inc. last year: 25 utility patents, six plant patents, four plant variety protections and one trademark.

Technology commercialization staff gathered with UGA deans and faculty to recognize each inventor individually and to present them with two tokens of appreciation: a red and black umbrella with an image of the Arch and the words “UGA Inventor,” as well as a commemorative license plate that reads “UGA INVNTR.”

UGA ranks 49th among U.S. universities and 66th worldwide for the number of patents granted, according to a list by the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association.

In the last 35 years, more than 540 U.S. patents have been issued to the Research Foundation, leading to more than 500 products originating from UGA research.
