Student faces jail for bomb threat

An e-mailed bomb threat to officials at the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh has left one student facing a $10,000 fine and a three-and-a-half-year stint in jail, according to The Oshkosh Northwestern.

Jennifer C. Merrigan, a first-year student at the university, said she anonymously e-mailed the threat in order to have more time to finish a class assignment.

She originally denied the threat, but after investigators found a surveillance video showing her using the campus computer from which the e-mail was sent, she owned up to the threat. The newspaper said she didn’t think it could be traced.

No word on whether she finished the assignment.
