Public keynote speech will kick off Nature Smart Schools Symposium

As part of the Nature Smart Schools Symposium, the College of Environment and Design will open keynote speaker Richard Louv’s lecture to the public. The lecture will take place April 24 at 4 p.m. in the Zell B. Miller Learning Center; registration is not required.

Louv is the award-winning author of Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder. The book became a bestseller and has sparked an international discussion of the importance of children’s relationship with nature. In 2008, Louv was awarded the Audubon Medal, whose list of recipients includes such figures as Rachel Carson and Jimmy Carter.

The Nature Smart Schools Symposium will address the modern dissociation between children and the natural environment. Nature Smart Schools utilize natural phenomena to provide students with healthy learning environments.
