Project Vote Smart will bring its Voter Defense System to UGA Oct. 17 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. to teach the public how to defend against political campaign misinformation. The motor coach will be located on campus at the intersection of Carlton Street and D.W. Brooks Drive.
All members of the public, in addition to the student body, are invited to visit. Parking is available at the Carlton Street Parking Deck or the South Campus Parking Deck Project Vote Smart is a national system that provides information on candidates’ voting records, speeches, campaign finances and interest group ratings. The information is free, unbiased and available to anyone.
Visitors to the motor coach will begin their experience by watching a short video about Project Vote Smart. Following the video, guests will be given access to a laptop computer and taught the different methods they can use to defend themselves against misinformation they may receive in the upcoming elections.
A national research organization, Project Vote Smart was founded by national leaders such as Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, John McCain and Geraldine Ferraro. It is funded entirely through foundation grants and the individual contributions of its 45,000 members.
