Professors: Stop college rankings

The American Association of University Professors is asking for a delay on U.S News & World Report’s college rankings in an effort to get colleges to be, and be seen as focused on serving the wellbeing of American society, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The rankings may shift thinking toward market-oriented competition for status instead of serving the public good, the AAUP’s leader said in an open letter to President Barack Obama and members of Congress.

The letter also urged the government to give funds to colleges to improve their abilities to educate students.
