Linda Bamber, professor emerita of accounting at the Terry College of Business, received the 2017 Distinguished Contributions to Accounting Literature Award from the American Accounting Association.

Bamber received the recognition for the paper, "What's My Style? The Influence of Top Managers on Voluntary Corporate Financial Disclosure," which she published in 2010 with Xuefeng "John" Jian and Isabel Yanyan Wang, two UGA doctoral students who are now tenured accounting faculty at Michigan State University.

This paper introduces a novel concept to accounting research, said Ted Christensen, director of UGA's J.M. Tull School of Accounting.

The award is also a reflection of the kind of attention and mentorship that Bamber provided to graduate students, said Michael Bamber, Linda's husband and an emeritus professor at Terry (formerly the Heckman Chair of Public Accounting).

This latest honor was presented to Bamber and her co-authors Aug. 9 in San Diego at the annual meeting of the AAA.
