Possible Bush library stirs controversy at Southern Methodist University

A group of Methodist ministers petitioned Southern Methodist University to remove itself from consideration as the host site for the George W. Bush presidential library, The Dallas Morning News reported.

In an online document, the ministers claimed “the linking of Bush’s presidency with a university bearing the Methodist name is utterly inappropriate.”

During a faculty meeting the university’s president, R. Gerald Turner, assured professors that any agreement to put the library complex on the campus would preserve SMU’s academic values and ethics.
