Physical ed expert to give Ramsey Lecture

Daryl Siedentop, an internationally recognized expert in physical education and author of the white paper on the nation’s plan to increase physical activity in schools, will speak in the Ramsey Lecture Series on March 29.

Siedentop, professor emeritus of sport and exercise science at Ohio State University, will deliver a lecture entitled, “Implementing the National Plan for Physical Activity in America’s Schools,” at 4 p.m. in Masters Hall of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.

In 2009, Siedentop wrote the white paper for the education sector about the implementation of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ plan to confront the limited success in increasing physical activity at a population level, despite the establishment of physical activity as a public health priority in the U.S. Many nations already have implemented a similar physical activity plan.

During his career, Siedentop served not only as a professor, but also as senior associate dean and interim dean of OSU’s College of Education and Human Ecology. When he retired in 2001, he became the leader of the P-12 Project, a university-wide outreach program organized to support urban school improvement in Ohio.

This event is part of the Ramsey Lecture Series and is hosted by the College of Education’s department of kinesiology. The lecture will be preceded by a reception in the lobby at 3:30 p.m.
