Oxford University lecturer to speak

Susan Gillingham, lecturer at Worcester College of Oxford University, will lecture Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. in Room 265 of Park Hall. Sponsored by the UGA at Oxford Study-Abroad Program, Gillingham’s lecture is entitled “Reading the Hebrew Bible with an Eye to ‘Then’ and ‘Now’: Psalm 8 as a Paradigmatic Text.”

A well-known scholar in reception history and psalmody, Gillingham has taught at UGA at Oxford since the mid 1990s, introducing more than 300 students to the historical, literary and theological issues in biblical texts. Throughout most of this time she has been researching the reception history of the Psalms for a volume, entitled The Psalms through the Centuries, to be published in December. She will present the birth and development of one particular psalm from historical, literary and theological perspectives.
