Odum School to host seminar, book signing

The Odum School of Ecology will host a seminar followed by a reception and book signing to celebrate the publication of Big Ecology: The Emergence of Ecosystem Science by David C. Coleman on Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. in the Ecology auditorium.

Big Ecology: The Emergence of Ecosystem Science provides a personal overview of the history and development of the science of ecosystem ecology by someone who has played a key role in its evolution from the 1960s through today.

Coleman, Distinguished Research Professor emeritus in the Odum School, will discuss some of the highlights of his book, as well as the “big ecology” issues of concern today.

“This is a ‘view from the inside’ ecosystem textbook that covers the high points and the major personalities of the development of the science,” Coleman said of his book. “I’ve tried to convey the immediacy and excitement of doing ecosystem work, not just in the early days but also today. I hope the message comes across that the glorious days of ecosystem ecology are not all in the past.”

The seminar and reception are free and open to the public. Copies of Big Ecology will be available for purchase.
