New Jersey government moves forward with university mergers

New Jersey universities are slated for restructuring following state legislation signed by Gov. Chris Christie in August.

The move calls for Rutgers University to merge with two campuses of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey—giving Rutgers medical and dental programs. The bill also promotes Rowan University to a research institute and creates a merger with the UMDNJ’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford.

The changes are scheduled to take effect in July 2013.
