A Little Salvation: Poems Old and New features a collection of poems by novelist and poet Judson Mitcham.

The collection, published by the UGA Press, includes poems from the past 25 years as well as 40 pieces from his previous anthologies, Somewhere in Ecclesiastes and This April Day.

In his poems, Mitcham explores the brief moments in people’s lives that help to save and truly humanize them. He emphasizes that deriving meaning from ephemeral moments in people’s lives is important to reach personal salvation. Using both humor and deprivation in his characters’ stories, Mitcham’s subjects search for meaning in their lives through their brief experiences.

Mitcham evokes both laughter and sadness with his pieces, while showing the beneficial and destructive aspects in life. Mitcham’s poems have appeared in Poetry, The Georgia Review and Harper’s Review. His novels, The Sweet Everlasting and Sabbath Creek each have won the Townsend Prize for fiction. Mitcham teaches writing at Mercer University.
