NCAA will more closely scrutinize transcripts from high school athletes

To better judge the academic merit of potential athletes, the NCAA will begin deeper investigations of high school transcripts submitted by unregulated prep schools. The program, up for adoption this spring, is meant to combat doctored transcripts, which officials estimate to come from about 100 schools nationwide. The issue surfaced in December when the New York Times found that a correspondence high school in Miami was able to remarkably increase the grades of elite football players. If approved, the program will launch next fall.
