Department of Labor to assist local residents seeking employment at UGA

Athens-area residents requiring computer assistance to apply for jobs at the University of Georgia can now visit the new Georgia Department of Labor office. The office, located at 150 Evelyn C. Neely Drive (where it intersects North Avenue), will meet residents’ needs formerly handled by UGA Human Resources, which is donating its publicly accessible computers to other departments on campus.

The new partnership between the university and GDOL, which went into effect Nov. 19, serves job seekers in several ways. Workers in the GDOL office have been trained using the university’s online application program, iPAWS (Integrated Position, Applicant and Workforce Systems). Applicants also can receive individualized career counseling and apply for jobs with other employers at the GDOL office.

This partnership is a key step in creating an integrated and customer-focused approach toward employment opportunities in the community, according to Tom Gausvik, associate vice president for human resources at UGA. All applicants for UGA jobs (except faculty) must use the iPAWS system, accessible from www.hr.uga.edu, which can be visited on any computer with Internet access.
