A federal judge ruled against a Florida law denying in-state tuition rates for U.S. citizens whose parents immigrated illegally. The September ruling does not affect students born outside the U.S. who were brought in as children.
The Florida law required students to provide parents’ immigration status to get cheaper in-state rates. That was ruled a violation of the students’ rights. Similar laws have been on the losing end of court battles in other states, including New Jersey and California.
