LACSI receives grant for graduate student research in Latin America, Caribbean

The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute has been awarded a $10,000 Tinker Foundation Field Research Grant to provide funds in support of travel for graduate students carrying out pre-thesis or pre-dissertation research in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean this summer.

UGA’s Graduate School and Franklin College of Arts and Sciences provided an additional $10,000 for the program. This is the fifth year LACSI has received a Tinker grant. In 2007, 17 students from 11 UGA departments received travel awards to carry out summer research in 12 Latin American/Caribbean countries.

This month, LACSI will formally announce its summer 2008 field research travel award competition through its listserv and Web site (www.lacsi.uga.edu/). All students interested in carrying out research in Spanish or Portuguese-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean this summer are encouraged to apply for this travel award.
