German & Slavic Studies to host documentary screening with filmmaker

Documentary filmmaker Dmitry Trakovsky will be on campus for a screening of his film Meeting Andrei Tarkovsky Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in Room 265 of Park Hall.

Trakovsky, an independent filmmaker, will introduce the movie and answer questions from the audience after the screening.

The documentary honors the 20th anniversary of the death of director Andrei Tarkovsky. Trakovsky (no relation to Tarkovsky) sets out in search of his favorite director’s legacy. His journey leads him to 15 interviews in California, Italy, Sweden and Russia, as he attempts to come closer to the meaning of one of Tarkovsky’s most enigmatic beliefs “that death doesn’t exist.”

The visit is hosted by German & Slavic Studies, Theatre and Film Studies and Comparative Literature.
