A National Wildlife article on a new way of tracking migratory birds and the data they produced quoted James Hargrove, associate professor of foods and nutrition.
“For a hummingbird to make it across the Gulf of Mexico on carbohydrates, it would have to beef up to about 12 grams,” Hargrove said. “It wouldn’t be able to lift off its branch!”
