Ex-dean of journalism files lawsuit

John Soloski, former dean of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, has filed a lawsuit in Fulton County Superior Court claiming that his reputation and career were damaged by a harassment charge that was used as a cause to demote him. The lawsuit claims the university denied Soloski a formal hearing on the harassment charge.

Those named in the suit include UGA President Michael F. Adams and the University System Board of Regents. Soloski resigned as dean last June after a former journalism school employee filed a complaint that he had sexually harassed her. Under an agreement signed when he originally was named dean, Soloski will return as a tenured professor this fall after a paid leave of absence. The university by policy does not comment on pending litigation.
