Delaware State University settles lawsuit with its equestrian team

The Delaware State University equestrian team will ride again and the institution will spend more money on female students, due to the terms of a settlement the university made with team members over a class-action lawsuit, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

Plaintiffs brought the suit against the university after it terminated the equestrian team in January, citing the federal gender-equity law Title IX. Under the settlement, the university has agreed to commit to complying with Title IX by 2013. The settlement specifies that Delaware State will increase the proportion of female students who play varsity sports to near parity with the percentage of the student body who are female.
