Arts and sciences students at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville will now have to fulfill only 35 credit hours of general education requirement instead of the original 66 thanks to a new policy enacted in response to a recently passed state law, the The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.
The reduction in credit hours is due to the elimination of a foreign-language requirement, reduced science requirements and the elimination of all math requirements besides college-level algebra. The state law is meant to ease the transfer of students from two-year to four-year institutions, the Chronicle reported.
