Conference on Drug Discovery set for Nov. 3

The 2011 Conference on Drug Discovery will be held Nov. 3 in Mahler Auditorium of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.

The day-long event, sponsored by the Center for Drug Discovery and co-sponsored by the Faculty of Infectious Diseases, will feature three plenary speakers: John J. Rossi, Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope;  David B. Weiner, Combined University of Pennsylvania Gene Therapy and Vaccines Graduate Program; and Kenneth A. Jacobson, National Institutes of Health. Each of these nationally renowned scientists will present cutting-edge research discoveries on the biology and therapeutic applications of small RNAs, on the development of vaccines for difficult pathogens and on cell signaling, receptors and diseases.

Provost Jere Morehead will make the opening remarks, followed by Svein Øie, dean of the College of Pharmacy, and Vasu Nair, CDD director and associate dean for research at the pharmacy college. 

A poster session will be held during the day, with cash prizes awarded to the top postdoctoral and graduate student entries.
