Community college in Iowa reopens after natural disaster strikes campus

Four days after a tornado tore through its campus, Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, reopened its doors, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

SCC official reported the storm did millions of dollars in damage to campus buildings, including four residence halls, the performing arts center and the instructional and technical centers. In addition, 165 students at the 1,700-student institution have been displaced. No deaths or life-threatening injuries were reported from the tornado, which was one of five in Iowa April 14 along with strong winds and thunderstorms in many other parts of the state.
