Bush administration hopes to attract more international students to U.S.

During a recent State Department meeting, Bush administration officials announced plans to attract foreign students to American institutions and encourage American students to study abroad.

The plan includes a strategy to promote American colleges and universities abroad, a new international Fulbright science award for outstanding foreign students in science and technology and a proposal to increase international exchange programs for low income and minority students. Before it becomes law, the plan moves to Congress for final approval. Authorities estimate $114 million will be needed for initial set-up of the plan and to operate it during the first year.
