Congress passed legislation in February that aims to reform how colleges across the nation treat sexual violence on campus.
The Campus Sexual Violence Elimination or SaVE Act, which was part of the Violence Against Women Act, will require colleges to report cases of dating violence, sexual assault and stalking in their annual crime statistics. The bill, which requires President Barack Obama’s signature, also requires schools to offer students and employees who are victims of abuse a change in campus housing or work environment.
The bill would require schools to offer educational programs for students and employees that address issues of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.
