Students graduating from the Lamar Dodd School of Art with concentrations of Art X: expanded forms and drawing and painting will have their work featured in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Exit Show, which will be on display Nov. 11 through Nov. 29 in galleries 101 and 307 of the art school. An opening reception will be held Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts Exit Show represents years of study and practice, culminating in a professional group exhibition and celebration. The drawing and painting program area exposes students to a range of aesthetic and intellectual pedagogy. Students investigate various types of media including charcoal, pastel, colored pencil, graphite, aqueous media, oil and acrylic paint.
Nine students will exit in drawing and painting: Rachael Andreaus, Ashley Bond, Alison Cundiff, Jefferson Duffy, Chelsea Elliott, Megan Maller, Christina Norton, Amanda Price and Liza Roger.
Art X: expanded forms gives students experience in different media including time-based forms, digital video, computer and Web-based art, digital photography, robotics, sound, performance, durational installation and computer-operated fabrication. Students are asked to consider historical developments, critical ideas and current practices related to time-based art. The area emphasizes creativity, versatility and poetics over computer-based technical skills.
The Art X: expanded forms show is entitled not pipes.
“The show will have a full range of materials, from video, performance, photography, to collage sculptures, jewelry and life-size interactive installations,” said associate professor Martijn van Wagtendonk, area chair of Art X: expanded forms. “Since all the work is concept driven and the five artists in the show make up a rich array of ideas and views, everyone will leave this show with something to scratch their head about.”
The five students in the Art X exhibition are Lindsey Klonoski, Laura McCranie, Peter Russell, Mark Starling and Benjamin Wills.
The art school will host BFA II in December.
