University of California, Berkeley plans to keep its baseball team

The University of California, Berkeley, announced plans to continue its baseball program despite an earlier announcement that the university would nix the team, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The decision to continue the program came after a rush of fundraising among program supporters, who pledged $9 million toward the team’s operating costs since February. In September, the university announced it would cut five athletic programs to save costs. But since then, three other teams—women’s gymnastics, women’s lacrosse and rugby—have been saved. Only the men’s gymnastics team is still set for termination, the Chronicle reported.
