Automatic budget cuts to impact military tuition-assistance programs

The U.S. Army, Air Force and Marine Corps have announced they will halt tuition-assistance programs due to budget issues caused by the U.S. government’s automatic budget cuts that went into effect March 1, according to a U.S. Department of Defense news release. The Navy has not announced a decision on its assistance program.

The programs aid thousands of service members by helping pay for college courses to prepare them for military or civilian jobs.

New tuition requests will not be permitted, but those currently enrolled in courses approved for the program will not be affected.
