India’s government doubles salaries of its university research professors

In an effort to increase research output, India’s government doubled the salaries of its public university’s research professors, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

Although government officials have long been worried about declining research from its public institutions, the decision to increase pay to researchers came about in part due to a desire to fight off inflation in the country and the downward trend of its currency’s value, the Chronicle said.
