Former trustee gives $5 million to University of South Carolina

Longtime University of South Carolina philanthropist Darla Moore, who was recently removed from the institution’s board of trustees by the state’s governor, pledged to donate $5 million toward a new aerospace center at the college, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

Gov. Nikki Haley removed Moore from the college’s board earlier this year, saying that the group needed a new perspective. While announcing her gift, Moore challenged the state to match her funds, saying the new center will help create a more educated workforce in South Carolina.
