The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the Lamar Dodd School of Art will present a public lecture on artistic intervention, curriculum and public pedagogy by B. Stephen Carpenter II on Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. in Room S151 of the art school.
Carpenter, founding director of Reservoir Studio: Transdisciplinary Underground Collective, is a professor of art education at Pennsylvania State University.
Visiting artist to lecture, perform on global water crisis
The lecture, part of the Franklin Visiting Scholars series, is free and open to the public.
Carpenter's visit to UGA also will include a public performance and workshop titled "Collaborative Creative Resistance" on Feb. 19 at noon at the west entrance to the art school.
In both the lecture and the performance/workshop, Carpenter will argue that the global water crisis demands creative interdisciplinary responses in the form of artistic, curricular and pedagogical interventions that raise awareness, engage research and take action.
"Dr. Carpenter's work embodies the interdisciplinarity that continues to both characterize and energize the field of art education, but it also extends these intersections in ways that compel us to further consider the creative and intellectual practices that we share with the world," said Christopher Schulte, an assistant professor of art education in the art school. "His work on art practice as creative intervention significantly strengthens our individual and collective engagements with social justice and equality today."
