Campus News

To our readers

Beginning April 11, you can let us know if you prefer to read the paper version of Columns or if you would like to read it online at www.uga.edu/columns.

Let us know your preference by going to the Self Service website (https://employee.uga.edu/FacStaff/index.jsp) and logging in with your MyID and password. Go to “My Information” and click on “My Personnel Data.”

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find “Columns Publication.” The text reads “If you wish to change whether you receive [the paper version of] Columns, click here.” This is a link to the opt-out/opt-in page.

This page only has one button, and that is to opt-in or opt-out. Choose one or the other. If you do not make a choice, you will continue to receive the paper version of Columns. This option is only available for current employees. Retirees and others who want to be removed from the mailing list should send an email to columns@uga.edu.

The decision to let readers opt out of getting the paper version of Columns stems from a readership survey conducted in fall 2009. Seventy-five percent of respondents said they would like to be able to opt out of receiving the paper version of Columns.

The Columns staff has been working since last fall with Human Resources, EITS and the information technology unit of the External Affairs division to set up the process, which includes a way for online readers to receive email notices about updates to the Columns website.

We ask those of you who choose to opt out of getting the paper version of Columns to be patient. Because the mailing list is produced in advance, it may take several weeks for your name to be removed once you opt out.

If you opt out of getting the paper version of Columns but later change your mind, your name can be added back to the mailing list by going back to the Self Service website and opting back in.

The choice is yours. But whether you decide to keep getting the paper version of Columns or you choose to read it online, please know that we appreciate you spending part of your week with us.
