Five residence halls take part in third annual Green Cup Challenge
Students in five residence halls in the Hill Community—Hill, Church, Boggs, Mell and Lipscomb halls—are taking part in the third annual Green Cup Challenge.
Hosted by the Office of Sustainability and University Housing, the Green Cup Challenge, which started Sept. 12, rewards points to residence halls based on the energy and water they save compared to previous years, the resources they recycle and their participation in sustainability-related events.
In 2010, Hill Hall won by lowering its overall water consumption to 29 gallons per person per day. Lipscomb Hall did the best at recycling throwing away only 21 percent of recyclables. For the 2011 competition, recycling bins have been set up on each residence hall floor, and the waste audit numbers are expected to be even lower.
