The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette interviewed Tao Shu, assistant professor of banking and finance in the Terry College of Business, about his research into how religious affiliation affects mutual fund strategies.

UGA and Southern Methodist University research has found that Catholic-dominated regions are more likely to have volatile returns in mutual funds compared to regions with a lower concentration of Catholics. 

“There are so many factors affecting mutual fund returns and risk taking,” Shu said. “That’s why I would say people need to be very careful interpreting our results.”
