Single tickets for Performing Arts Center events go on sale Aug. 30

Single tickets for the Performing Arts Center’s 2010-2011 season will go on sale to the public Aug. 30.

The upcoming season will offer a rich mixture of music, dance and theater as the Performing Arts Center embarks on its 15th season of bringing the world’s finest entertainers to Athens.

The Performing Arts Center’s 2010-2011 season will open Sept. 24 with Diavolo, one of America’s most innovative and creative dance companies. Comprised of dancers, gymnasts and actors, Diavolo will train several UGA dance students to join with the company for the first performances in the recently restored Fine Arts Theatre.

The upcoming season also will include Tony Bennett, in a new partnership with the Classic Center; the BBC Concert Orchestra under the direction of Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart; a live taping of the popular radio show From the Top with host Christopher O’Riley; the Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile; banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck with percussionist Zakir Hussain and bass player Edgar Meyer; and the Guitar Orchestra of Barcelona with more than 20 of Spain’s most gifted guitarists. Other highlights of the Performing Arts Center’s new season include bluegrass sensation Dailey and Vincent, the authentic Irish music of Danú and the sensuous moves of Tango Buenos Aires. The Performing Arts Center will be offering a new Off-Broadway series as well, showcasing the Second City Company whose alumni include Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Joan Rivers and Steve Carell; the Reduced Shakespeare Company performing The Complete World of Sports (abridged); and The Water Coolers, a musical comedy about the things shared around the water coolers of America.
