The Lamar Dodd School of Art will present an opening reception for an exhibition by 2012-13 Photography Fellow Kelly Kristin Jones on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. The exhibition, The Sorority Girl Project, will be on display in Gallery 101 of the art school until Feb. 7.

The Sorority Girl Project is a new body of work created by Jones since her arrival at UGA in fall 2012. It documents female students involved in Greek life on campus.

“The sorority subculture was completely new to me, and I have found it infinitely interesting,” said Jones, who received her master of fine arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in spring 2012. “More than being a critique or investigation of the Southern college sorority girl, the project is really about the gaze and their performance for the camera.”

Jones’ exhibition will consist of 12 30- by 40-inch color pigment prints, which she describes as a play on formal portraiture.

The Post-MFA Photography Fellow is a one-year teaching and research position that brings recent MFA graduates, their ideas and perspectives into the dialogue of the programs of the art school.

The fellow teaches two classes each semester and conducts research, developing new work that is presented in an exhibition and public lecture during the spring semester. Jones is the third Post-MFA Photography Fellow in the art school.
