PSO seeking proposals for fellowship

The Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach is accepting proposals from tenure-track and tenured faculty members to immerse themselves in the work of a PSO unit for one semester. The office of the vice president provides $15,000 to a fellow’s home department to be used as the department head deems appropriate.

“One of public service and outreach’s 2010-2015 strategic plan goals is to create outreach avenues for tenure-track and tenured faculty members. Specifically, my office has established a semester-long immersion experience for academic faculty members in a PSO unit,” said Steve Wrigley, interim vice president for public service and outreach. “Our intent is to provide research and outreach outlets for academic faculty members while also enriching the work of the PSO units.”

The PSO units include the Archway partnership, the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, the Fanning Institute, the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel, Marine Extension Service, the Office of Service-Learning, Small Business Development Center and the State Botanical Garden of Georgia.

Permanent, full-time tenure-track and tenured faculty members are eligible for the program. Guidelines are online at http://outreach.uga.edu/resources/pso-fellowship-program/. Proposals for participation in the 2011 fall semester should be sent electronically to ovppso@uga.edu by March 15. Questions should be directed to Trish Kalivoda, senior associate vice president for public service and outreach, at  tlk@uga.edu or (706) 542-3946.
