Prazak Quartet performs free concert

The Performing Arts Center will present the Prazak Quartet March 20 at 8 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall. The quartet’s concert is part of the Franklin College Chamber Music Series, now in its 31st year of presenting the finest chamber music free of charge.

The Prazak Quartet was founded in 1972 while its members were students at the Prague Conservatory. Since then, the quartet has become one of the most respected ensembles on the international music scene.

In 1974, the Prazak Quartet won first prize at the Prague Conservatory Chamber Music Competition and shortly thereafter the quartet made its international debut with a performance at the Prague Spring Music Festival.

In 1978, the quartet took first prize at the Evian String Quartet Competition as well as a special prize awarded by Radio France for the best recording during the competition.

The Prazak Quartet regularly appears in all the major European musical capitals including Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Milan, Madrid, London, Berlin and Munich. In North America, the Prazak Quartet has performed in New York (Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, 92nd St. Y), Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Washington, Philadelphia, Miami, St. Louis, New Orleans, Cleveland, Denver, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.

This concert will be recorded for national radio broadcast on American Public Media’s “Performance Today.”
