Comic artist will discuss ‘The Power of Procrastination’

Jorge Cham, the creator of Piled Higher and Deeper comics, will present “The Power of Procrastination” April 7 at 3:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Tate Student Center.

In the presentation, Cham will use his own experiences to help alleviate the anxiety and stress students encounter in graduate school by humorously addressing academic lifestyle and experiences.

The Graduate School is hosting Cham’s appearance in conjunction with Graduate Professional Student Appreciation Week.

“We are thrilled to have Jorge speak at UGA as part of the graduate student appreciation week,” said Maureen Grasso, dean of the Graduate School. “Jorge shows us the humor in graduate education, and, while we are serious about our work, he makes us laugh at our experiences.”

A popular comic on campuses across the country, Piled Higher and Deeper reflects on academic life from the viewpoint of graduate students and faculty.

Cham first wrote and published Piled Higher and Deeper in October 1997 while attending Stanford University as a graduate student. The comic has appeared in student newspapers, and the online version (www.phdcomics.com) receives more than 2 million monthly page views.

“The Power of Procrastination” will be followed by a book signing and a reception.
