Poverty grants

UGA faculty members interested or engaged in research related to persistent poverty in Georgia are eligible to apply for the Poverty and the Economy Faculty Research Grants Program. The deadline to submit research proposals related to poverty and the economy in Georgia is Sept. 28.

A pre-application workshop will be held Sept. 6 from 2–4 p.m. in the training room of the Fanning Building.

Four to six grants ranging from $15,000 to $30,000 will be awarded in 2007.

Now in its third year, the program funds applied research and creative scholarship related to poverty and the economy in Georgia and aims to further research on persistent poverty and inform public policy that will improve the economy and the lives of Georgia citizens, according to Art Dunning, UGA vice president for public service and outreach.

The program is sponsored by the University of Georgia Research Foundation Inc. and administered by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach.

Applications that reflect collaboration across academic and service units are highly encouraged. In addition, research that builds on understanding the public policy barriers that inhibit or limit an individual’s ability to participate fully in the economy and build personal wealth is of particular interest.
